FLAX BOURTON CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL

Every term Willow, Beech and Oak classes elect two children to represent them on the school council. The members meet regularly to discuss points raised at class meeting. School council sessions are facilitated by a member of staff but are run by the children who set the agenda and choose a chairperson and a minute taker.
The council has contributed ideas about charity fundraising, playground games and equipment, the logo competition and rules for playtime football games. Members have also debated many items of interest to pupils. The children take agreed suggestions and ideas to Miss Bennett for consideration and they also raise any concerns with her. The council gives pupils a valuable opportunity to listen to others, discuss different opinions and negotiate decisions. It also gives staff a valuable opportunity to hear the views of pupils and incorporate their ideas and suggestions into the development of the school.
